How fast the air is moving at 250ft (your drone's cruising altitude). Wind is always stronger up there than at ground level. The DJI Mini Pro 5 can handle sustained wind, but gusts and turbulence are where small drones struggle.

Sudden spikes in wind speed, often twice the sustained speed. More dangerous than steady wind because they're unpredictable — they can flip or destabilise a small drone without warning, especially near buildings or trees.

The chance of rain, drizzle, or snow. The DJI Mini Pro 5 has no water resistance — even a light shower can get into the motors and electronics, causing permanent damage or a crash. Never fly in rain.

The DJI Mini Pro 5 uses a LiPo battery. Cold temperatures reduce battery capacity — at 0°C you might lose 30% flight time. Below 0°C the battery can fail mid-flight and drop the drone. Always warm batteries to room temperature before flying in cold weather.

How far you can see clearly. UK CAA rules require you to keep your drone in Visual Line of Sight (VLOS) at all times — you must be able to see it clearly without binoculars. In haze or fog this becomes impossible beyond a few hundred metres.

Cloud cover is how much of the sky is covered (0% = clear blue sky, 100% = fully overcast). Cloud ceiling is the estimated height of the cloud base. You must fly below the clouds. The UK CAA open category limits most flying to 400ft anyway, but if clouds are below 400ft you need to stay under them.

A measure of solar storm activity from 0 (quiet) to 9 (extreme storm). During high Kp events, GPS signals can be unreliable or completely lost. Your drone relies heavily on GPS to hold position, return home, and avoid obstacles. During a storm it may drift, fail to hover, or fly off course.

Live aircraft within 8km of your location, pulled from OpenSky Network's ADS-B data. This shows manned aircraft (planes, helicopters) that are broadcasting their position. Always give way to manned aircraft — they have absolute priority. Note: not all aircraft are tracked (military, low-altitude helicopters may not show).

A measure of solar UV radiation strength. High UV means intense sunlight, which can cause screen glare on your phone/controller, making it harder to see the camera feed. It also means you'll get sunburned faster if you're standing outside for an extended session.

The Mini Pro 5 falls under the Open A1/A3 category. Key rules: fly below 400ft (120m), keep visual line of sight at all times, stay away from crowds, airports, and restricted zones. You need a Flyer ID (free from CAA). Always check NATS Drone Assist for your specific area — airspace restrictions change constantly.

Live airspace data from OpenAIP covering a ~10 km radius. CTR (Control Zone), Restricted, Prohibited, and Danger zones mean you cannot fly without specific authorisation. MATZ (Military ATZ), ATZ (Aerodrome Traffic Zone), and TMA (Terminal Manoeuvring Area) require awareness and often pre-flight notification. Always verify with NATS Drone Assist — this is informational only.

Air quality index on the European scale. High particulate matter (PM2.5) or dust can reduce visibility and, in extreme cases, interfere with optical sensors. Mostly informational for drone flying — high dust or haze can degrade obstacle avoidance camera performance and reduce the visibility you need for VLOS.
